Sights

Apart from natural beauty, Milos also has a rich culture and history which you will be able to revive through its unique museums and historic sites that are available. Apart from museums though there are also many sights worth seeing, some of which are creations of nature and some of human. Below is a list of some of the most unique museums and attractions of the island of Milos.

Mining Museum

It is located in Adamas and aims to present the mining tradition. Created in 1998 with the support of the company S & B Industrial Minerals SA to honor and promote the long mining history of the island.



Folk Museum

The Folk Museum is situated in Plaka, Milos. It was founded in 1967 by the Society of Mileans in Athens and is rich in artifacts, which are related to daily life on the island since the 17th century onwards.



Ecclesiastical Museum

A short distance from the beach of Adamas is the thousand year old church of Aghia Triada, which houses the Ecclesiastical Museum of Milos, while the entrance is an impressive tapestry that portrays the battle of good (White Centaur) versus evil ( Black Centaur).



Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Milos is located in Plaka , housed in a neoclassical building, the work of E. Schiller, wich was built in 1870. It operates as a museum since 1985. It contains many archaeological finds of the island from all periods of history.



Catacombs

The Catacombs are one of the greatest discoveries of early Christian times. They are a community Christian cemetery and they are located near the present village of Trypiti.



Ancient Theatre

The Ancient Theater of Milos is located in Tripiti, was discovered in 1814 and excavations lasted from 1816 until 1867.



Glaronissia

The creator of these three rocks, with these spectacular formations, is the volcanic lava. They are located on the north part of the island and the best way to visit and admire them, is with some of the tourist boats ranging from Adamas.



Arkoudes

At the entrance to the island (next to Plathenia) are the bears(Arkoudes in Greek), which astonish every visitor with beauty and originality. Nature has made it's miracles on two rocks, thus giving the island of Milos, another interesting place of discovery for travelers.



Shipwreck

The shipwreck lies in Sarakiniko, and can be reached by walking for a little, eastern of the beach, on the rocks. The ship is said, that was sank at that point after a fierce storm, thus giving an interesting and wild beauty to the place.
