Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Milos is located in Plaka , housed in a neoclassical building, the work of E. Schiller, wich was built in 1870. It operates as a museum since 1985. It contains many archaeological finds of the island from all periods of history.
Entering into the museum you can see findings of two major periods of prosperity of the island. The first was during the prehistoric period (3rd to 2nd century BC), when Milos had as its center the beach of Fylakopi. The second period was during the first millennium BC where the center of the island was Klima.
Inside the museum visitors can see important works of art as "the lady of Phylakopi (written clay figurine)," Venus of Milos "(replica of the original work is in the Louvre), a small marble Cycladic collection of figurines, a large collection of stones and many other exhibits.
